I feel conflicted. It is true that in the beginning, mankind was vegetarian. However, if meat is not to be eaten, why did God give meat to Noah and on down the line? One could say that Noah was given meat because of the flood and they couldn’t plant right away, but then God gave the dietary laws in Leviticus. He instructed the Israelites to prepare and eat the lamb at Passover. He fed them quail along with the manna in the desert. Jesus prepared fish for the disciples after His resurrection. So why would God do all of that if we weren’t supposed to eat it? Yet, I see all the studies that show healing taking place on plant-based diets. That’s why I’m confused.

This is the way I see it. In the garden of Eden God said: “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” – Genesis 1:29

In Genesis 6:3 God said: “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” And not in the 900 range as it had been before the flood.

So after the flood probably the vegetation was sparse even though the dove brought a freshly picked olive leaf (Genesis 8:22), and God allowed people to eat meat the clean kind as stated in Leviticus 23. However, humans have made gluttons of themselves as far as the amount of meat they eat each day, which is the reason for the increase in cancer and so many other diseases.

In biblical time people ate meat very sparingly along with fruits, vegetables and grains and they got lots of exercise every day in manual labor and walking everywhere they went. Jesus walked hundred’s of miles as did the apostle Paul. People were fit and did not sit in front of TV’s and their computers all day. Research has proven that people that work in the fields, walk to work and live for example on rice, beans and vegetables and on occasion have a small amount of meat are healthier and live longer than those that have adopted the Standards American Diet (SAD) which is a very appropriate acronym for this diet.

Another reason is that meat is quite different today than it was even 100 years ago with all the antibiotics and manipulated feed the animals get. When we do scientific research humans are still considered herbivores by the way we were created by God. The message was think about it . . .
